Ayia Napa
Once a small fishing village, Ayia Napa has developed into a popular holiday resort due to its beautiful clear blue sea, beaches with golden sands and many tourist attractions. It is visited by many people from all over the world and is very well known for its magnificent night clubs and bars which cater for people of any age.
The focal point of the resort is the harbour, where the tavernas specialise in fresh fish brought in by the colourful fishing boats. Life in the south-eastern corner mostly revolves around the sea, and water sports are enjoyed all year round.
Larnaca
Larnaca is a nice quiet town, which is the same all year round unlike some tourist areas of the island, which are very busy in the summer and quiet in the winter. Cafes and restaurants line the area near the sea, making this a popular spot with visitors and Cypriots alike.
Nearby is the Marina, frequented by yachtsmen from all over the world and at the western end of the promenade is the town's 17th century fort. As the home of the island's main international airport, Larnaca offers many visitors their first taste of Cyprus.
One of the first sights is the beautiful salt lake, home in the cooler months to the colonies of graceful flamingos and other migratory birds. Larnaca may be a small town but it has a big heart, a town that gives its visitors a genuine welcome. A feeling of security prevails everywhere since the crime level is so low it is practically non-existent.
Limassol
The south coast town of Limassol is the island's largest seaside resort, the centre of the wine industry and a main port. A magnificent backdrop to the city that spreads for ten miles along the coast are the foothills of the Troodos Mountains, where most of the country's grapes are grown.
The town has a relaxed holiday atmosphere, with a wide seafront promenade and bustling little shopping streets. There are numerous beaches to choose from, the most popular have the convenience of changing rooms, showers, cafes and bars. Limassol also has an attractive, newly completed marina equipped with every facility for the yachtsman.
Pafos
A small charming harbour town, on the west of the island, it has a history which goes back literally thousands of years. The recent addition of Pafos international airport nearby has opened up the area. The harbour has a selection of picturesque open air fish restaurants which line the quayside.
This part of the island possesses all the elements of a perfect holiday location, small sandy beaches that rank high on the list of some of Europe's best, lush natural surroundings, entertainment to suit all tastes and infinite sporting activities for all ages. The town of Pafos is included in the official UNESCO list of cultural and natural treasures of the world's heritage. |
